Syracuse
Fleet Feet, Syracuse: Owners Ed and Ellen Griffin opened the Syracuse store twenty years ago. They’ve since moved the store to a large location in Dewitt and opened a second store in Clay. Ed and Ellen are fixtures in the running community, and the store serves as a hub for running and walking group activities, training, and packet pickups.
Syracuse Track Club: The Syracuse Track Club hosts a number of events, including the Super Couch Potato 5K, the Halloween Run, and a number of cross country events.
Syracuse Chargers Track Club: In addition to the Swamp Rat, Cazenovia July 4th and Willow Bay Women’s 5K, the Chargers host track and field events and Thursday Night Fun Runs. The latter runs from June through August.
Willow Health and Wellness Center: Willow Racing runs the Dick’s Sporting Goods Family Fit Series and a list of multi-distance races, including the Earth Day Half Marathon, Thousand Islands Half Marathon & 5K, and Old Forge Marathon, to name a few.
CNYRacing: Makers of some of the best race giveaway products in the region, including the well-known Syracuse Half Marathon medals and jackets. Another of the many reasons runners in Central New York are spoiled.
Leone Timing: A well-established local timing company, Leone is gaining a national presence. They use a B Tag system that does away with need for additional sensors.
Auyer Timing: Another excellent timing company based in Oswego. Like Leone, they use a B Tag timing system.
Mountain Goat: The Mountain Goat Run is a ten-mile race over the highest points in Syracuse. The races dates back to the 70s and regularly draws thousands of participants.
Syracuse Half Marathon: Among the largest of the local races, the Syracuse Half Marathon attracts runners from New England, the Mid Atlantic, and Beyond.
Rochester
Medved Running & Walking Outfitters: One of the oldest and largest running stores in the Rochester region. Medved carries a wide selection of gear and hosts a number of training events.
Fleet Feet, Rochester: Has three locations, including a recently-opened store in Victor (near the North Face shop by Eastview Mall).
Yellowjacket Racing: Organizers of the Winter Warrior and many other events held in the greater Rochester area.
Rochester Marathon: Held every September, the Rochester Marathon is one of the largest events in the region.
Running Sites
FueledByLOLZ: Arguably my favorite running blog and partial inspiration for this site. Hollie, the site’s author, has extensive shoe and equipment reviews, race reports, and restaurant reviews (among many other topics).
